Lima, Oct. 18 (ANDINA).- The Peruvian exports will be the least affected by the world financial crisis, due to the expansion of markets in the European Union, Asia, and the Americas, said Peru’s vice-minister of Foreign Trade, Eduardo Ferreyros.
“We have to highlight that, from last year, our non-traditional exports have a percentage increase higher than our traditional exports, reason why they are becoming our new driving force of growth”, he said.
However, he said that the international financial crisis affects the world economy, so exports’ decrease would occur worldwide.Ferreyros said that as consequence of this crisis, the price of main commodities has been affected with a downtrend; and because Peru holds a significant part of its exports in these products, it is expected that exporting amount results affected this year.
“The international crisis is linked to the recession of United States economy in general, and due to US is the main trade partner of Peru, probably exports to this country will be also affected”, he stated.
On the other hand, he said that, in order to improve the competitiveness of the country, it is essential to take advantage of trade agreements already on negotiations. In addition, he said that his sector is working hard according to the National Competitiveness Plan, which also contemplates the National Strategic Exports Plan (PENX 2003-2013).
